Traditional Malaga for “foodies”- Part1

When you go on holiday, do you enjoy eating in places with charm full of locals?

In general when we are away from home, most of us prefer to go to this kind of place as we all believe nobody knows a town’s secret gems better than its locals.

When we visit a new place we are a bit scared of the unknown as we are out of our comfort zone and we do not really know what to expect or what kind of food or drinks are served in a certain place.

As you know in Hotel Yaramar we love good food, so because of this we have decided to create a little gastronomic guide you might find useful if you decide to make the most of Malaga’s gastronomic richness.

Here you have our first 3 recommendations:

1. La Antigua Casa de Guardia

Antigua Casa de Guardia is the most famous and oldest winery-tavern in the whole region as it was founded in 1840. It is located right in the city centre, in Alameda Principal, and it is so old school that the bill still gets written in chalk over the bar. Its specialities are the famous sweet wine “Pajaretes” and its delicious prawns and mussels.


2. The tapas stalls in Mercado de Atarazanas

This wonderful market is also right in the city centre (very close to Alameda Principal) and it is housed in a beautiful building built between 1876 and 1879. It is a very lively market full of sounds, smells and flavours that apart from having stalls where locals buy fresh fruit, meat and fish now also has some tapas stalls where you can have a delicious little something and a refreshing drink. Which one is our favourite? The one called Bar Mercado Atarazanas for these 3 reasons: its fish is very fresh and very well cooked and its octopus or prawn skewers are super tasty.


3. El Pimpi

El Pimpi is possibly the most legendary place in Malaga. It is a traditional wine bar in the core of the city (Calle Granada) and it one of the favourite meeting points of locals and visitors. Its decoration is stunning and there apart from amazing wines from Malaga you can also have some very tasty tapas and local dishes. Well this is all for now!
